About us

Brief introduction

  The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) of National Quemoy University (NQU) was established after the approval of the Ministry of Education and started recruiting students in 2012. NQU celebrated an educational reform in 2010. During the event, Foxconn Precision Industry (also known as Foxconn) Chairman Terry Gou led Foxconn IE Academy general manager, Doctor Jacob Chen; Doctor Chin-Cheng Lee (former principal of National Quemoy University); and the NQU administrative team in jointly establishing the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. IE plays a key role in the precision industry and is the foundation of Hon Hai Precision Industry.

Teaching objectives

  The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management incorporates the teaching objectives of NQU to cultivate students with the following five key skills:

1.  (Basic skills) Basic engineering knowledge and management skills.

2.  (Professional skills) Professional knowledge and skills in IEM to meet the needs of various industries.

3.  (Execution skills) Skills to analyze, integrate, and solve problems in an increasingly diverse culture and society.

4.  (Communication skills) The ability to work in a team, communicate, and manage operations in the engineering and various industries.

5.  (Humanities skills) Humanistic care and professional ethics, as well as an international outlook for the betterment of the world.

  The basic and professional education of the department upholds NQU’s mission of seeking truth by encouraging students to engage in extensive study, accurate inquiry, careful reflection, and clear discrimination in pursuit of scientific truth.

  The execution and communication education of the department upholds NQU’s motto to take action by equipping students with execution skills to communicate, coordinate, and solve problems.

  The humanities education of the department upholds NQU’s motto for the betterment of the world by culturing students into talented people who demonstrate humanistic care, respect for professional ethics, and possess an international outlook.

Nine core competencies

Through integrating a strong faculty team and local governmental and industrial resources, we endeavor to train students to become mid-level and senior leaders and managers of enterprises who demonstrate the following nine core competencies:

1. Ability to apply mathematical, scientific, and engineering knowledge in the field of IE.

2. Ability to design and execute projects or experiments and to analyze data.

3. Ability to perform the skills required to practice IE and to use IE tools.

4. Ability to identify, analyze, and handle IE problems and to execute problem-solving.

5. Ability to develop the production, quality, material supply chain, facility, and management systems for various industries (e.g., manufacturing, service, cultural and creative, and medical industries).

6. Ability to use information technology to improve business efficiency.

7. Ability to communicate effectively and work on a team.

8. Ability to comprehend current global topics; understand the impact of engineering and management technology on the environment, society, and the world; and develop the habit of and skills for continuous learning.

9. Ability to understand professional ethics and social responsibility and to develop the ability to better the world.
 

Features of this department

Department of Industrial Engineering and Management aims to cultivate students to be qualified personnel with international perspective, innovative thinking and problem-solving capabilities. The courses of our department emphasize engineering technology and management science in the environment of smart manufacturing and industrial sustainable development. We provide many corporate internship programs to enable students expand the knowledge and benefit from invaluable on-the-job experience. Our courses focus on problem-based learning and learning by doing to cultivate students' professional ability.
